Welcome to a special blog series in honor of Mother’s Day: Like a Mother.
Here at afloat, we’re all about celebrating everything and that includes making Mother’s Day special for everyone. We know that not everyone has a perfect relationship with their own mom, may not have a mom or may have trouble becoming a mom themselves. That’s why it’s our job to make everyone who is like a mother (strong, powerful, nurturing, and a badass) feel celebrated on Mother’s Day.
To do so, we asked our store partners (many of them moms themselves!) how they celebrate Mother’s Day, and most importantly, how they describe a person who feels like a mother, whether biological or not.

afloat: who are you celebrating this Mother’s Day?
bt&s: I’m glad you asked.. this is the first Mother’s Day since my mom passed away. I didn’t really have a plan, other than trying to focus on my own kids. Since you asked I started to realize that my life is full of strong, amazing women. So yay for that!
afloat: what is one word you would use to describe them?
bt&s: The absolute most fabulous and inspiring woman I know is my friend Fay. She is L-O-V-E! Fay lives every day sharing perfectly positive advice, wonderful whiffs of her “perfum du jour”, and impressive demonstrations of compassionate ways to be a good human. I love her like a mom. I am so grateful to have her in my life.
afloat: what’s your go-to gift from your store to celebrate someone who feels like a mother to you and why?
bt&s: I think the perfect Brookside Toy & Science gift for her will be some chill crystals and a funky jigsaw puzzle because she is an art-loving moon mama who deserves the tools to help her unwind and relax. I am looking forward to celebrating many Mother’s Days with dear friend Fay.
