Welcome to a special blog series in honor of Mother’s Day: Like a Mother.
Here at afloat, we’re all about celebrating everything and that includes making Mother’s Day special for everyone. We know that not everyone has a perfect relationship with their own mom, may not have a mom or may have trouble becoming a mom themselves. That’s why it’s our job to make everyone who is like a mother (strong, powerful, nurturing, and a badass) feel celebrated on Mother’s Day.
To do so, we asked our store partners (many of them moms themselves!) how they celebrate Mother’s Day, and most importantly, how they describe a person who feels like a mother, whether biological or not.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the caretakers and nurturers out there. We celebrate you! In this edition, we sit down with Kansas City store owners Kristin and Jess from Fitz Collective.
afloat: Who is the person you’re celebrating this Mother’s Day?
kristin and jess: The obvious answer here is our own Mom. She is easily the most kind and comforting person we know. Our relationship with our mom continues to evolve as we reach different life stages; we’ve been able to reflect on our childhood with new eyes and really appreciate how strong and resilient she was/is.
Kristin here- I have three incredible kids of my own, but really want to shine a light on Jess, who may not be a mother herself yet, but steps up in all the ways that matter– and more than I could list. I am beyond thankful for her friendship, support, and unconditional love for my babes.
afloat: What is one word that you use to describe a person who feels like a mother to you?
kristin and jess: Selfless. I know it sounds cliche, but there is no better description for someone who turns their life upside down for the sake of making someone else’s.
afloat: What’s your go-to gift from your store to celebrate someone who feels like a mother to you and why?
kristin and jess: Our studs– we have two of our most popular styles available on Afloat: The blue & white floral, and the hydrangea. They can be dressed up or dressed down. We love these most for the everyday functionality– we hear they pair well with dry shampoo, messy buns, and cold coffee.
